Credo Technology Group Holding has announced a deal to buy Dust Photonics, a move that expands the company into silicon photonics and optical connectivity. Management described the acquisition as a critical step for its optical business, with an expected inflection in optical products around fiscal 2027.
The purchase is tied to growing demand for AI infrastructure and cloud networking, both of which depend on high-speed optical links. As data centers scale up to handle larger AI workloads, the need for faster and more efficient data transmission has become a priority for chip and connectivity companies.
Credo shares were trading at $237.68 at the time of the announcement. The company has seen increased investor attention as the market looks for suppliers that can support the physical layer of AI systems. By adding Dust Photonics' silicon photonics technology, Credo aims to strengthen its position in the optical interconnect space, which is expected to see significant growth over the next several years.
The deal also signals a broader trend among semiconductor and networking firms racing to secure optical capabilities. As AI models grow in size and complexity, the bottleneck is shifting from compute alone to the speed at which data moves between chips and servers. Credo's move into photonics is a direct bet on that shift.
