Hofstra University's law school has established a new center focused on legal technology, funded by a one million dollar endowment from an attorney. The institute will expand the school's existing work in areas such as cryptocurrency, artificial intelligence, and data privacy.
The donation comes from a practicing lawyer who wanted to support research and training at the intersection of law and emerging tools. School officials said the hub will give students hands-on experience with the software and platforms reshaping legal practice. It will also host workshops, sponsor research projects, and invite experts to campus.
Faculty members noted that demand for lawyers who understand digital assets and automated systems has grown sharply in recent years. The new center aims to prepare graduates for that market while producing practical scholarship for judges, regulators, and firms.
The law school plans to hire staff and launch fellowships over the next academic year. Administrators described the gift as a long-term investment in legal education rather than a one-time project. The donor said the goal is to help the next generation of attorneys work confidently with technology instead of treating it as an afterthought.
