Latinx Technology & Community Center hosts neighborhood cleanup event

The Latinx Technology and Community Center brought together a group of volunteers over the weekend for a neighborhood cleanup initiative aimed at improving public spaces and fostering community pride. The event, which took place on Saturday morning, saw participants fan out across several blocks near the center to collect trash, clear overgrown sidewalks, and remove debris from vacant lots.

Organizers said the cleanup was about more than just appearances. It was a way to build connections among residents and show that small actions can make a visible difference. Volunteers included local families, young students, and a few small business owners who live or work in the area. They were provided with gloves, trash bags, and pick-up tools donated by nearby hardware stores.

By early afternoon, the group had filled dozens of bags with waste, including plastic bottles, old tires, and discarded furniture. Some volunteers also painted over graffiti on a few walls and swept the entrances to local shops. The center's director noted that the effort was part of a broader push to encourage civic engagement and environmental awareness within the Latinx community.

Residents who passed by stopped to thank the crew, and a few even joined in on the spot. The center plans to hold similar cleanups every few months, with the next one already being scheduled for early fall. Anyone interested in volunteering can stop by the center's front desk for details.
