Two major technology firms are getting a promotion to the S&P 500 index later this month. Semiconductor company Marvell Technology and electronics manufacturing services provider Flex will both be added to the benchmark index, according to a recent announcement from S&P Dow Jones Indices.
The two companies will replace Pool Corp., a distributor of swimming pool equipment, and The Campbell's Company, the food and beverage giant known for its soups and snacks. The changes are set to take effect before the start of trading on December 23.
Marvell Technology, based in Santa Clara, California, designs and produces a wide range of chips used in data centers, networking, and automotive applications. The company has seen strong demand for its custom silicon and networking solutions, particularly as cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads continue to expand.
Flex, headquartered in Singapore but with major U.S. operations, is a global leader in electronics manufacturing. The company builds everything from medical devices to automotive components for some of the world's largest brands. Its inclusion in the S&P 500 reflects its steady growth and importance in the supply chain for electronics.
Being added to the S&P 500 is a significant milestone for any company. It often leads to increased visibility among institutional investors and can trigger buying from index funds that track the benchmark. For Marvell and Flex, the move signals their rising stature in the technology sector and the broader economy.
