Nvidia in Talks on $250 Billion Backing for OpenAI Hub, WSJ Says

Nvidia Corp. is reportedly in discussions to provide a guarantee worth roughly $250 billion to help OpenAI secure computing power from a major data center project planned for southern Ohio, according to the Wall Street Journal. The report, which cites people familiar with the matter, suggests the chipmaker would back the lease for computing capacity from the massive facility.

The potential deal highlights the escalating demand for advanced computing infrastructure to support artificial intelligence development. OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, has been aggressively expanding its computing resources to train and run increasingly complex AI models. Nvidia, as the dominant supplier of AI chips, stands to benefit from such partnerships by ensuring its hardware is used in large-scale deployments.

The Ohio project is part of a broader trend of tech companies investing in massive data centers across the United States. These facilities require enormous amounts of energy and specialized cooling systems to handle the heat generated by thousands of high-performance processors. If finalized, the guarantee would represent one of the largest financial commitments in the AI industry, signaling the scale of resources needed to compete in the field.

Neither Nvidia nor OpenAI have publicly commented on the reported negotiations. The talks remain ongoing, and terms could change or fall through entirely.
