Construction has begun on the Timashev Technology Tower, a new addition to the Columbus Innovation District that is intended to strengthen ties between the university and the surrounding technology and life sciences community. The building will offer shared laboratories, flexible office space and coworking areas, giving startups room to expand next to university researchers and students.
The project is backed by a low-interest loan planned through JobsOhio. The tower will also provide space for ventures that emerge from the BuildX student startup program, helping young companies move from early concepts into working space with access to campus resources.
University officials described the tower as a place where research and business can meet, with labs designed to serve both academic teams and growing companies. The shared facilities are meant to lower the cost of getting started for smaller firms that might otherwise struggle to afford specialized equipment.
The building is part of a broader effort to concentrate innovation activity in the district and keep startup talent close to the university. Construction is expected to continue over the coming months, with the tower becoming a central piece of the district's growth.
