Advising is often the backbone of a student's academic experience, helping them map out their path from freshman orientation to graduation day. At Seton Hall University, that backbone is getting a major upgrade thanks to a new push for collaboration across different departments. Instead of each school or college handling its own advising training in isolation, faculty and staff from across the campus have come together to redesign the core advising course.
The goal is to create a more consistent and effective experience for students, no matter which major they choose. By pooling expertise from academic affairs, student services, and individual departments, the team is building a curriculum that covers not just scheduling and degree requirements, but also the softer skills of mentoring and guiding students through tough decisions. Early feedback from pilot sessions suggests that students are responding well to the updated format, which includes more interactive scenarios and real-world case studies. The redesign effort highlights a growing trend in higher education: breaking down silos to put student success first.
