Major League Baseball is set to trial a new technology system aimed at challenging checked swing calls in the Class A Florida State League, beginning Tuesday. This innovative approach utilizes a Hawk-Eye system, allowing teams to contest a checked swing decision made by the umpire.
Under this new system, either the batting or defensive team can initiate a challenge if they believe a checked swing was incorrectly called. The technology will assess the swing angle, determining that any motion falling short of 45 degrees will be classified as a no swing.
