With funding from the National Science Foundation’s Secure and Trustworthy Cyberspace program, alongside support from the Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), a new project at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is set to delve into the realm of Agricultural Internet of Things (Ag-IoT) technology. Led by computer scientist Nirnimesh Ghose, the initiative aims to explore and enhance the security measures surrounding IoT devices used in agriculture.
As the agricultural sector increasingly adopts IoT solutions for monitoring crops, managing resources, and optimizing yields, the need for robust cybersecurity measures becomes paramount. This project will address potential vulnerabilities within these systems, ensuring that farmers can utilize technology without the fear of cyber threats.
The research team will investigate various aspects of Ag-IoT security, including data protection, device authentication, and network integrity. By developing innovative solutions, the project seeks to bolster the resilience of agricultural technologies, ultimately contributing to the sustainability and efficiency of food production systems.
